One of my pet peeves is the lack of decent, comfortable mountain bike shorts for women. It is so hard to find a good pair of women’s shorts that most of mine are men’s. When I saw the tagline Mace Gear uses for these shorts that says “high octane all mountain comfort for the ladies” I thought to myself, “we’ll see about that!”.

According to the Mace Gear website these shorts have zippered front vents to keep you cool, woven stretch for added mobility, waist tabs for easy fit adjustment and a durable water repellent coating. One thing I have found about the woven stretch is the shorts tend to get a bit baggy as the day goes on, but that’s where the waist tabs come in handy. The water repellent coating works well in a light rain, but I definitely wouldn’t depend on it for a moderate to heavy rain.

However, I can definitely say without a doubt that these shorts are definitely comfortable! They also have a stretch rear gusset which I find helps the shorts stay on you when you’re dropped behind the seat. I also find that they fit so well, I tend to wear them around town on days that I’m not riding.

I look forward to seeing the 2011 line that Mace has just released. These are my second pair of shorts from Mace Gear’s women’s line and I’ve been happy with the fit of both pairs.
