Wet, muddy, and dark…
That pretty much sums up our ride tonight!
We don’t know what it is, but Isabelle and I are absolutely addicted to night riding. We’re not sure if it just puts a new spin on old trails, or having the trails to ourselves? Either way, we think we may have our friend, JF, addicted as well!
Originally we had gotten together a group of 6 to ride tonight but with the heavy rain tonight, it dwindled down to 3. Not that we were surprised… So off we went to begin the climb to the trail head. With it being JF’s second night ride, we decided to stick to Broncos again since he was familiar with the trail and we could get him more comfortable with his new setup (he recently bought a new bike, a 2009 Specialized Pitch Pro, and a new headlight) and riding in wet, mucky conditions.
The best part is I finally got to really put my new tires to the test. I put Maxxis Ardents on my bike but this was the first time I used them in wet conditions, which is the reason I replaced the tires on my bike. I am impressed! And very happy I made the swap. While Isabelle and JF were slipping and sliding on roots I stayed firmly on the trail. There is also one long, steep climb up an old logging road that I climbed up with ease as well, both of my riding partners ended up having to walk (and they’re both far superior climbers than I am). Definitely money well spent.
All in all, another sweet ride! Although next time I ride in the rain, I think I’ll leave the padded biking shorts at home, if you know what I mean
